Bulgaria: Electricity production reached 24.6 TWh in 2023

Production of electricity in Bulgaria between 1 January and 6 August 2023 decreased by 22% compared to same period in 2022, to 24.62 TWh, according to the data published by electricity transmission system operator ESO. In the same period, electricity consumption decreased by 5% reaching 22.2 TWh. 

Surplus electricity amounted to 2.41 TWh in 2023, 70% less than in 2022. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 19.52 TWh of electricity in 2023, which is 27% less than in 2022.
