Bosnia and Herzegovina: TPP Gacko recorded 75,000 euros profit in Q1

Coalmine and thermal power plant Gacko, operated by power utility ERS, recorded a net profit of around 75,000 euros in the first three months of 2023, compared to a loss of 300,000 euros in the same period 2022.

The company’s operating revenues rose by 16% year-on-year to 21.5 million euros in the first three months, while operating expenses rose by 13% to 21.3 million euros.

Earlier in May, TPP Gacko management announced that it plans to use alternative RDF (refuse-derived fuel) produced from municipal waste in addition to coal for electricity generation by burning it in a steam boiler. The plan is to burn up to 1,200 tons of RDF fuel daily, with an initial experimental phase consumption of 360 tons per day.

The plant’s management has conducted an initial environmental impact assessment and is currently in the process of obtaining an environmental permit from the relevant Ministry.
