Bosnia and Herzegovina: Electricity production declines in August

In August 2024, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) produced a total of 603 GWh of electricity, marking a 1.3% decrease from 611 GWh in August 2023. The breakdown of gross electricity production shows hydropower plants contributed 25.21%, thermal power plants accounted for 71.48%, and wind farms generated 3.31%.

Net electricity production for the month reached 555 GWh, with hydropower plants producing 151 GWh, thermal power plants contributing 384 GWh, and wind farms generating 20 GWh. Electricity imports increased to 147 GWh from 90 GWh in the same month last year, while exports rose to 143 GWh compared to 98 GWh in August 2023.

In terms of coal production, brown coal output fell by 10% to 361,469 tons from 401,777 tons in 2023. Lignite production also decreased by 8.2%, totaling 126,120 tons this August compared to 137,443 tons last year. Additionally, coke production saw a significant drop of 46.8%, with 34,324 tons produced in August 2024, down from 64,465 tons in the previous year.
