Bosnia and Herzegovina, CHPP Zenica commissioned

Bosnian steel mill ArcelorMittal Zenica, in cooperation with the Municipal Government of Zenica and two Finish companies, officially commissioned a new combined heat and power (CHP) plant in the city.

ArcelorMittal Zenica, the city of Zenica, KPA Unicon and FinnFund cooperated on the project for the construction of 53 million euros CHP plant, which consists of three boilers. The investors financed the project with a 41 million euros loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), guaranteed by ArcelorMittal. The remaining 12 million euros was provided by the investors themselves.

The new CHPP has a power output of 14.45 MW and a heat capacity of 112.5 MW. The construction was launched in March 2020. The new plant will not use coal, leading to the complete elimination of SO2 emissions and a more stable supply of heat to consumers, as well as a reduction of CO2 emissions by some 200,000 tons per year.
