Romania: DEER launches €19.5 million project to upgrade electricity distribution in Maramures County

Distributie Energie Electrica Romania (DEER) is spearheading a major investment initiative to modernize and expand the electricity distribution infrastructure in Maramures County, located in Romania’s northern historical region. The project is financed through the European Commission’s Modernization Fund, with additional support from the Ministry of Energy.

The investment, totaling over 19.5 million euros, aims to ensure a stable and reliable electricity supply for both consumers and producers in the region. It will also provide the necessary infrastructure to accommodate new users. Scheduled for completion by March 31, 2026, the project will involve the expansion and modernization of the electricity networks, benefiting over 10,000 consumers.

DEER’s strategy prioritizes improving service quality by reducing unplanned outages, while focusing on the automation and digitalization of the networks. These upgrades are designed to meet the region’s current and future energy needs in a more effective and efficient manner.
