Bulgaria: Chiren gas storage facility reaches 90% capacity ahead of schedule

Bulgartransgaz, the Bulgarian natural gas transmission system operator, has announced that the Chiren underground gas storage facility is now 90.24% full. This marks the second consecutive year that Bulgaria has met the European Union’s requirement to fill at least 90% of its storage capacity by November 1st ahead of schedule.

Currently, twelve companies—seven Bulgarian and five international—are utilizing the Chiren facility for their natural gas storage needs. The facility is crucial for managing seasonal fluctuations in gas consumption and supply.

Owned and operated by the state-run Bulgartransgaz, the Chiren gas storage facility plays a vital role in ensuring stability and reliability in the region’s natural gas supply.
