Slovenia: Increase in May electricity production

In May 2021 Slovenia’s net electricity generation decreased by 33 % compared to the same month last year, according to the data from the Statistical Office of Republic of Slovenia. In May 2021, total net electricity generation in Slovenia reached 1,338 GWh, which is 82 % more than in the previous month. At the same time, consumption reached 1,100 GWh, which is a 1 % decrease compared to March, while 9 % less electricity was consumed in May 2020. In May, production in thermal power plants decreased by 6 % compared to the same month in 2020, production in hydropower plants increased by 47 %, while NPP Krsko was offline due to scheduled overhaul in early May and produced 19 % less electricity compared to the same month last year. In May 2021, Slovenia imported 578 GWh (2 % more compared to May 2020) of electricity and exported 782 GWh (+ 4 %). Supply of energy commodities in general went down in May, except from the supply of kerosene which rose by 66 %, coke by 25 % and diesel by 5 %. Compared to the previous month, a decrease in supply of lignite and brown coal (30 %) was recorded, as well as natural gas (23 %), heating oil (20 %), LPG (17 %), and other petroleum products (14 %). Compared to May 2020, the supply of kerosene increased by 65 %, petrol by 29 %, hard coal by 25 %, natural gas 25 %, coke 21 %, lignite and brown coal 21 % and other petroleum products by 8 %.
