Slovenia: Above-average production at HSE’s HPPs

In May, hydropower plants operated by Slovenian energy company HSE recorded above-avetage production results. By 20 May, the company’s plants produced a total of 1.63 TWh of electricity since the beginning of the year, thus exceeding planned production for this period by as much as 21 %. By 20 May, HSE’s subsidiary Soske Elektrarne Nova Gorica (SENG) exceeded the monthly production plan by 51 %, Dravske Elektrarne Maribor (DEM) exceeded the plan by 20 % and Hidroelektrarne na Spodnji Savi (HESS) by 69 %. Thus, planned production in the first five months of the year was also exceeded – DEM by 23 %, SENG by 17 % and HESS by 10 %.

Executive Director of HSE’s production segment Matjaz Eberlinc said that High electricity production was due to very favorable hydrological conditions, highly available production infrastructure and favorable market conditions. The forecasts remain favorable for the foreseeable future due to the abundant snow cover in the high mountains and the announced new precipitation. HSE is the largest producer of electricity from renewable sources in Slovenia: in 2020 we produced as much as 88 % of all electricity from renewable sources in the country. This production is mostly hydro-based, but recently HSE obtained a license for the construction of the largest solar power plant in Slovenia – 3.04 MW Prapretno solar power plant near Hrastnik.
