Slovenia: Increase in electricity production in October

In October 2020 Slovenia’s net electricity generation increased by 111 % compared to the same month last year, according to the data from the Statistical Office of Republic of Slovenia.

In October 2020, total net electricity generation in Slovenia reached 1,732 GWh, which is 24 % more than in the previous month. This is the highest monthly electricity generation recorded in Slovenia in the last 17 years of monitoring. At the same time, consumption reached 1,175 GWh, which is a 7 % increase compared to September 2020, and also 2 % lower compared to October 2019. In October, production in thermal power plants decreased by 1 % compared to the same month in 2019, production in hydropower plants increased by 167 %, while NPP Krsko was offline in October 2019 for regular maintenance. In October 2020, Slovenia imported 478 GWh (- 47 % compared to October 2019) of electricity and exported 999 GWh (+ 101 %). Supply of energy commodities in general went up in October, except from the supply of kerosene which dropped by 24 %, petrol by 23 % and diesel by 9 %. Compared to the previous month, an increase in supply of lignite and brown coal (56 %) was recorded, as well as natural gas (34 %), other petroleum products (32 %), heating oil (29 %), LPG (16 %), hard coal (10 %) and coke (4 %). Compared to October 2019, the supply of kerosene decreased by 61 %, heating oil by 42 %, petrol by 24 %, coke by 16 %, diesel by 10 %, LPG by 8 % and hard coal by 7 %.
