Slovenian natural gas company Geoplin has failed to get the remaining free capacity at the LNG terminal on the Croatian island of Krk, so it will probably have to turn to other sources in order to end its dependence on the Russian gas.
The second-largest Slovenian wholesale natural gas supplier Geoplin was not successful in the tender for the remaining free capacity at the terminal, which went to the gas company Prvo Plinarsko DrusÌŒtvo (PPD), a Croatian partner of Russian Gazprom.
The fact that Geoplin did not get capacities at the Krk LNG terminal is a huge blow to Slovenia’s plans to overcome the ongoing energy crisis.
Managing Director of the terminal’s operator LNG Hrvatska Hrvoje Krhen, said that he cannot comment on business relations, but confirmed that Geoplin is not direct user of the terminal. However, it can, like any other company, be supplied with gas through any of the terminal’s users.
Currently, Slovenia gets most of its gas from Russia, based on Geoplin’s long-term contract with Gazprom.
