Slovenia: Elektro Maribor is most successful in smart meter installation

Slovenian electricity distributor Elektro Maribor is one of the most successful Slovenian companies in the introduction of smart electricity meters, because at the end of 2020, more than 208,000 of their customers or more than 94 % of all metering points were included in the advanced metering system. With this, the company has greatly exceeded the legally set goal of 80 % customers with installed smart meters.

Elektro Maribor is aware that smart metering systems are a fundamental building block of smart grids, so in recent years, the company has been investing not only in increasing the capacity of the network, but also in building advanced metering systems that include meter management system stations, metering centers, communication infrastructure that enables the transfer of data from system meters to metering centers and the establishment of a single information system. This year, more than 12,000 customers are expected to be included in the smart metering system, which means that at the end of the year, 211,500 customers or 95.7% of all metering points will be included in the system. According to Elektro Maribor, the establishment of modern metering systems will enable consumers and other market players to more actively adapt to market conditions, use smart meters and additional services, with the aim to adjust consumption to meet their needs.
