Slovenia: Earthquake in Croatia didn’t affect NPP Krsko

Nuclear power plant Krsko remained unaffected by the 5.3 magnitude earthquake that struck neighboring Croatia, and it continues to operate at full capacity, Slovenian Government announced.
The statement from the Government said that the plant’s staff inspected systems and equipment and did not find any deviations or other impacts on the plant operation and equipment due to the earthquake. NPP Krsko plant is located in Slovenia near the border with Croatia, some 50 km northwest of Zagreb, where the epicenter of the earthquake was.
NPP Krsko is owned by GEN Energija and Croatian power utility HEP, where the two companies own equal stakes. NPP Krsko was put in commercial operation in 1983 and it should be in operation until 2023, but both countries agreed to extend plant’s operational life by additional 20 years. The plant provides approximately 40 % of Slovenia’s total electricity output.
