Slovenia: Dravske Elektrarne Maribor to build its first wind farm

Slovenia is completely at the tail end of the European countries in the use of wind energy, and more than ten years have passed since the last major wind power plant was built in our country. Dravske elektrarne Maribor (DEM) and the chosen contractor, the company Hmezad TMT from Ljubljana, signed a contract for the construction of the first wind farm where the investor is owned by the state. They will start building before the summer.

Mali Log wind farm with an installed capacity of 1 MW will produce enough electricity to cover the entire energy consumption of all households in the municipality of Loški Potok. Work on the construction site will begin before the summer, and construction will be completed by the end of the year. The total value of the investment amounts to just under two and a half million euros.

The location of Mali Log was chosen based on favourable wind conditions and taking into account possible impacts on people and nature. Potential impacts on human health, forestry, agriculture, animals and nature as a whole were investigated, with a special investigation aimed at birds.
