Slovenia, DEM is developing two geothermal projects in northeastern part of the country

Slovenian hydro-based electricity producer Dravske Elektrarne Maribor (DEM), which operates within HSE Group, is developing two geothermal projects in northeastern part of the country, worth some 41 million euros.

Both projects should be built in the municipality of Lendava, but differ significantly in terms of capacity and size of investment. The geothermal pilot project will be implemented at the abandoned Pg-8 oil and gas well, near Centiba, using innovative heat transfer technology. The pilot plant will have an installed power of 50 kW and will work with the help of a gravitational geothermal heat pipe, without emitting gases that are usually produced in conventional binary geothermal power plants. The construction permit for this project should be obtained between 2022 and 2024. The value of the investment is one million euros.

The second project will be built on the location of the Mg-6 well near Benica. It is a geothermal plant with a binary circuit, which will have a capacity of several MW, and estimated investment value is around 40 million euros.
