Slovenia, 10 MW battery storage within SINCRO.GRID project in trial operation

Battery storage capacities at RTP Okroglo and RTP Pekre have been put into trial operation as part of the SINCRO.GRID project. The total rated power of both systems is 10 MW, and the rated capacity is 50 MWh.

In May 2017, Croatian and Slovenian electricity transmission system operators HOPS and ELES, as well as electricity distribution system operators HEP-ODS and SODO signed in Brussels an agreement on the first phase of SINCRO.GRID project, thus obtaining 40.5 million euros of EU funding for the project. Total value of the project is 88.6 million euros.

The purpose of the SINCRO.GRID project is to use advanced technical systems and algorithms to manage power flows in order to improve the quality of voltage in electricity networks and increase the transmission capacity of existing lines, thus ensuring better integration of renewable energy into electricity system and increased the security of supply. Within the SINCRO.GRID project, transmission system operators will be responsible for implementing the technology in its own networks, while distribution system operators will improve the supervision of the distribution network with the aim to use advance tools for better forecasting.
