Serbia partners with South Korea to develop nuclear and hydrogen energy technologies

The Ministry of Mining and Energy has signed two memoranda of cooperation with Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP) to advance nuclear energy and hydrogen technologies. The agreements were formalized at the Korea-Serbia Forum for Strategic Energy Development in Belgrade.

The nuclear energy memorandum aims to strengthen Serbia’s capacity in nuclear technologies through workforce training and the exchange of technical expertise. KHNP will assist Serbian institutions, universities, and companies in developing programs covering nuclear technology, safety standards, and regulatory frameworks. The agreement also establishes a mechanism for regular sharing of research results and best practices.

The second memorandum focuses on hydrogen and seeks to explore the development of green hydrogen pilot projects in Serbia. Cooperation will include technical exchanges, capacity-building for human resources, and knowledge-sharing across the entire hydrogen value chain, from production and storage to supply and management. KHNP noted that pilot hydrogen projects are expected to play a key role in shaping Serbia’s emerging hydrogen industry.

Serbian officials emphasized that nuclear energy could contribute to long-term energy security and support the country’s transition to clean energy. They also highlighted Serbia’s interest in hydrogen technologies and the opportunities for new collaborative projects with South Korean partners.

KHNP representatives stated that the partnership would support sustainable growth in Serbia while opening new opportunities in the clean energy sector.
