Serbia: Italian company interested in RES investments

Italian company Terna Energy is a minority shareholder in Montenegrin electricity transmission system operator CGES, with whom it jointly developed a project for the construction of submarine cable connecting Montenegro and Italy. TernaEnergy is interested in investing in renewable energy in Serbia and taking part in some of the country’s strategic energy projects.

Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic discussed these topics with the representatives of the company. She noted that Serbia is open for investment in renewable energy, the area where there is enough room for new projects.

She stressed that, by adopting four new energy-related laws, the Ministry has created entirely different conditions for the process of energy transition. In that process, Serbia wants to cooperate with the best companies in the field of energy. The investment plan in the field of energy and mining encompasses projects worth 17 billion euros, of which an important part pertains to renewable energy sources and electricity. Head of the international operations of Terna Giovanni Cerchiarini said that, in addition to the cooperation with EMS on Trans-Balkan Corridor, there was also the possibility of the company taking part in increasing the use of RES. The Trans-Balkans Corridor is very important to both states, but also the region. Terna wants to strengthen the cooperation with EMS, and we also want to take part in strategic projects, because Terna sees Serbia as an energy hub, he said.
