Serbia: France to support modernization of electricity distribution network

Serbia and France will cooperate on the implementation of a general automation of the management of electricity distribution networks, according to the Financial Protocol signed between Serbian Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali and French Minister of Foreign Trade Olivier Becht.

This document defines the project of running a general automation of the management of the electricity distribution network, that is, the automation of the medium-voltage power distribution network in Serbia, as one of the priority projects in the cooperation between the two countries. It was also agreed that the French Government will approve financial support for the implementation of a general automation of the management of the electricity distribution network within a project worth 140 million euros.

In July, Schneider Electric announced that it had signed an agreement worth 140 million euros on the supply of medium-voltage equipment and network management software for upgrading Serbia’s electricity distribution network. The statement from the company said that the upgrades will help Serbia to improve its medium voltage electricity distribution network, lowering the rate and the duration of outages. It will also reduce network losses and enable significant CO2 emissions reductions and savings. This upgrade will improve the quality of electricity supply and thus strengthen the service provided by Serbia’s distribution system operator Elektrodistribucija Srbije (EDS) and its customers.
