Serbia: EPS enters winter with stable output and strong profits, highlights environmental progress

Serbian state-owned power utility EPS has entered the winter period with stable coal output and electricity generation, setting the stage for a profitable year in 2025, according to company director Dušan Živković.

He emphasized that both households and businesses can rely on a secure and uninterrupted electricity supply, as EPS’ production fleet is fully capable of meeting demand throughout the heating season. Reviewing recent performance, Živković noted that the results over the past two years reflect a sustained trend of financial stability. In the first nine months of 2025, the company recorded a net profit of €293 million, surpassing last year’s figure by more than €42 million, and it plans to close the year without taking on additional borrowing.

EPS is also advancing new generation projects, including the B3 unit at TPP Kostolac, the Petka small-scale solar plant, and the Kostolac wind farm, which has already begun trial operations. These projects demonstrate the company’s focus on expanding and diversifying its energy portfolio.

In terms of environmental protection, Živković highlighted significant progress. EPS is nearing completion of its largest environmental investment to date: the flue gas desulfurization system at the TENT B thermal power plant. Testing has shown that the facility will dramatically reduce sulfur emissions, achieving cuts of up to thirty times, similar to results already delivered by the system at TENT A. These developments underline EPS’ commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible energy production.
