A new biomass heating plant will secure high-quality heating and cleaner air and a healthier environment for the citizens of Majdanpek, as mazut will be eliminated from the district heating system. Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic said that the sulfur dioxide emissions will be entirely eliminated, and carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by 93%.
Djedovic visited the construction site of the biomass heating plant, which is the fourth of its kind in Serbia and is being built in cooperation with the German Development Bank (KfW). She said that the first thermal energy from this heating plant is expected to be delivered by the end of this heating season, as the plan is for the heating plant to be completed in February 2024.
The total investment value is 5.5 million euros. The German Government and the KfW Bank supported the project, with 26.75 million euros, as well as Switzerland, which supported projects for the construction of biomass heating plants in Serbia.
