Bulgaria’s innovation ministry and the Clean Hydrogen Partnership of the European Commission have agreed to cooperate in the field of green hydrogen, the ministry said.
The memorandum aims to establish a partnership mechanism between the European programmes supporting new technologies, including hydrogen, the innovation ministry said in a press release.
The cooperation will boost the participation of Bulgarian companies and scientific organisations in the Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking’s research and demonstration project funding competitions.
“Partnerships for the development of the hydrogen economy and support for the transition to a green economy are extremely important for stimulating innovation, maintaining competitiveness in the future, increasing economic growth and creating new jobs,” Deputy Innovation Minister Veselina Mincheva said.
With the support of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership and the Scientific Research, Innovation and Digitisation for Smart Transformation programme, Bulgaria will launch its first hydrogen valley – the Zagora Sustainable Hydrogen Region (ZAHYR) near Stara Zagora and the Maritsa basin. The initiative seeks to establish a long-term hydrogen economy in the Stara Zagora region and across the country.
The Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking, set up in 2021, is a public-private partnership that supports research and innovation in hydrogen technologies across Europe, according to the European Union’s website. It aims to enhance the development and deployment of the European value chain for safe and sustainable clean hydrogen technologies, bolstering competitiveness and facilitating quick market deployment of innovative clean solutions, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises, seenews.com reports.
