Romania supports two new solar projects with Modernization Fund backing

Romania is moving forward with its clean energy goals by supporting two new solar power projects through the Modernization Fund.

The first project, developed by Brasov Renewables, involves the construction of a 30.8 MW solar power plant, which will also include a 6.2 MWh battery storage system. The total investment exceeds 28 million euros, with approximately 2.3 million euros provided through the Modernization Fund.

The second initiative is led by Romcim and focuses on a smaller 2.7 MW solar installation at its facility in Targu Jiu. Intended for self-consumption, this project represents an investment of over 3.2 million euros, with around 660,000 euros in funding from European sources. Romcim had previously received support through the Recovery and Resilience Plan for a 30 MW wind farm, which is already in operation.

These projects demonstrate how industrial players can generate their own energy, reduce pressure on the national grid, and lower operational costs. The Modernization Fund continues to be a key driver of Romania’s energy transition, having already allocated over 14 billion euros to help modernize and diversify the country’s energy sector.
