Romania, Rompetrol Rafinare will continue operating the Petromidia refinery until the end of September

Rompetrol Rafinare, a member of KazMunayGas International Group (KMGI Group), said that it plans to resume operations at its Petromidia Navodari refinery by the end of September, following an explosion that occurred on 2 July.

The statement from the company said that Petromidia refinery will resume operations in accordance with the work schedule and delivery of equipment necessary for repairs and inspections of units affected by the accident. Production units will gradually enter the operational flow.

This timeframe will depend on the additional measures for verification and testing of the equipment, in accordance with the safety rules, and the approval and certification of the installations by the competent authorities.

An incident took place on the platform of the Petromidia refinery, within the diesel oil refining installation (HPM). The incident resulted in death of three workers.

The explosion at the Petromidia refinery took place after the unit underwent a general overhaul between March and April 2020.
