Romania: Photon Energy commissioned two solar power plants

Solar developer Photon Energy connected to the network two new solar power plants in Faget and Sahateni, with a combined installed capacity of 10.3 MW.

Following the commissioning of the company’s six power plants at the beginning of 2023, the commissioning of the facilities represents another important stage for the company in the Romanian renewable energy market, where it has an additional capacity of approximately 20 MW in five different locations at an advanced stage of construction.

The total annual output of the power plants is expected to be approximately 4.7 GWh and 10.9 GWh, respectively. High-efficiency double-sided solar modules mounted on single-axis trackers will provide clean energy to the networks managed by E-Distributie Banat (Faget) and Distributie Energie Electrica Romania (Sahateni).

The electricity produced will be sold on the market on a commercial basis, without any state support and without power purchase agreements. The plants will generate revenues of approximately 2.25 million euros in 2024 based on current forward prices for baseload electricity in Romania.

The power plants are equipped with 18,300 combined solar panels. The plants are owned and operated by special purpose companies, which are wholly owned by Photon Energy Group. The company’s portfolio now includes 96 solar plants with a combined capacity of 123.4 MW. A total capacity of more than 100 MW is sold as clean electricity directly on the energy market.

The company is developing solar projects with a combined capacity of over 1.2 GW in Australia and its core markets in Central and Eastern Europe, including 223 MW in Romania, with a capacity of 20.1 MW being in an advanced stage of construction.
