Romania: NPP Cernavoda’s Unit 1 of reconnected

The unit 1 of Romanian sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda was successfully reconnected to the electricity network, Romanian electricity producer Nuclearelectrica, the operator of the plant, announced.

Unit 1 of NPP Cernavoda was shut down in a controlled manner on 23 January in order to carry out some remediation works due to the occurrence of a disfunctionality on the conventional/secondary technological circuit of unit 1. Initially, the controlled shutdown was planned for 16 January, but it was postponed due to extremely low temperatures expected over the weekend. The controlled shutdown of NPP Cernavoda’s unit was performed according to the procedures applicable in case of such events and is necessary in order to allow the plant’s staff to perform the remediation works under safety conditions given the fact that the working fluid (demineralized water) is at high temperature and pressure.
