Romania, Natural gas imports in H1 2022 amounted to 1.067 million tons of oil equivalent

According to data published by the National Institute for Statistics (INS), natural gas imports in the first half of 2022 amounted to 1.067 million tons of oil equivalent which is by 17.1 % or 220,700 tons of oil equivalent less compared to the same period last year.

In the same period, domestic natural gas production amounted to 3.502 million tons of oil equivalent, or 5.5 % (203,800 tons of oil equivalent) below that of the first six months of 2021.

The National Commission for Strategy and Forecast estimates for 2022 a gas production of 7.45 million tons of oil equivalent and imports of 2.33 million tons of oil equivalent, increasing by 1.9 %, respectively decreasing by 19.6 %, from year to year.

According to the Energy Strategy 2019-2030, with the perspective of 2050, Romania’s natural gas production will reach a peak of 132 TWh in 2025, as a result of production in the Black Sea, and then will it would fall to 96 TWh in 2030 and to 65 TWh in 2050.

Final natural gas consumption will remain constant between 2030 and 2050, at the level of 68 TWh. The maximum level of demand is estimated at around 73 TWh, and the minimum level, from 63 TWh in 2030, to 47 TWh in 2050.
