Romania: MMT completed an oil terminal overhaul

Midia Marine Terminal (MMT), a subsidiary of Rompetrol Rafinare, has completed the scheduled turnaround of the offshore oil terminal, which started in August.

The project, worth 3.96 million euros, spanned 24 days and consisted of the replacement of all floating and submerged hoses at the terminal that supplies raw materials to the Petromidia oil refinery, Rompetrol Rafinare said in a press release.

The newly installed parts, manufactured by Japanese company Yokohama, are expected to have a lifespan of up to eight years, but those that are subjected to an increased level of mechanical stress will be replaced in two years.

Following the completion of the turnaround of the marine terminal, crude oil unloading operations have also begun, with the first vessels being operated this week, with a total of almost 250,000 tonnes of crude oil delivered to the Petromidia refinery, Rompetrol Rafinare said.

Since its commissioning in 2009, MMT has supplied the Petromidia refinery with around 55 million tonnes of raw materials. The maximum operating throughput of the offshore terminal is 7,000 cu m of crude oil per hour, meaning that a vessel carrying between 80,000 and 160,000 metric tonnes can be unloaded within 24–36 hours.

Rompetrol Rafinare is the core asset of Dutch-based KMG International, which is fully owned by Kazakhstan’s state-owned energy company KazMunayGaz Group. Through its two oil refineries, Rompetrol Rafinare provides over 40% of Romania’s refining capacity.
