Romania: In the first five months of 2021 gas imports increased

Romania imported natural gas in the amount of 1.8 million tons of oil equivalent in the first five months of 2021, which is by 24.5 % or 212,200 tons higher than in the same period of 2020.

Domestic natural gas production in the mentioned period was 3.133 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 1.8 % or 58,300 tons lower than in the January-May 2020 period.

The National Commission for Strategy and Fore-cast (CNSP) estimates for this year a gas production of 7.4 million tons of oil equivalent and imports of 2.32 million tons of oil equivalent, increasing by 1.5 % and 38 %, respectively, compared to 2020.

For 2022, CNSP forecasts a production of 7.475 million tons of oil equivalent (1 % increase) and imports of 2.795 million tons of oil equivalent (20.5 % increase).

According to the 2019-2030 Energy Strategy, with a view to 2050, Romania’s natural gas production will reach a peak of 132 TWh in 2025, as a result of production in the Black Sea, and then will it would decrease to 96 TWh in 2030 and to 65 TWh in 2050.
