Romania: Electricity exports reached 10.4 TWh in January – November 2023

Electricity production in Romania decreased by 0.5% in the eleven months of 2023, to 16.4 million tones of oil equivalent (TOE), compared to the same period in 2022, according to the National Statistical Office data.

Energy resources, including imports, totalled 30 million TOE in the eleven months, declining by 3% on the year, INS said in a preliminary statement. In the same period, imports amounted to 13.6 million TOE (- 5.9%).

Romania’s electricity output and imports totalled 59.58 TWh in the January-November period, up 1.8% on the year. The country’s electricity output accounted for 51.83 TWh, increasing by 2.3% year-on-year.

In the eleven months through November, thermal power plants generated 15.97 TWh of electricity (-18%), while the output of hydropower plants jumped by 33% to 17.1 TWh.

Electricity generation in nuclear plants increased by 1.1% to 10.17 TWh.

Wind farms generated 6.93 TWh (+8.2%) while solar plants generated 1.6 TWh (-7%).

Romania’s electricity exports rose 59% on the year, reaching 10.42 TWh in the first eleven months of 2023, while imports fell by an annual 1.3% to 7.74 TWh.
