Romania: Electrica reached 21 million euros profit in H1

Romanian company Electrica reached a net profit of 21.4 million euros in the first half of 2023, compared to a loss of 35.5 million euros in the same period in 2022.

The company’s operating revenues increased by 14% in the first six months of the year, reaching 1.35 billion euros. EBITDA registered an increase of 108 million euros, reaching 128.5 million euros in H1 2023.

The result was mainly generated by the operational performance of the distribution segment, due to the increase in energy revenues, generated by the increase in distribution fees, by approximately 20 %, compared to the same period of the previous year, reducing the effect of the decrease in distributed quantities by 8%.

The volume of electricity distributed was 8.28 TWh, down 8% compared to H1 2022. Its distribution arm DEER (Distributie Energie Electrica Romania) serves approximately 3.9 million customers, in an area covering approximately 40% of Romania. The volume of electricity supplied to the retail market was 3.88 TWh, down by 7% compared to H1 2022, against the background of the general trend of decreasing electricity consumption.

The supplier, Electrica Furnizare provides electricity for approximately 3.5 million places of consumption on the free market, as well as in the universal and last resort service regimes. The company is one of the largest suppliers, with a total market share of 17.79 % in the regulated and 10% in the free market, as of April 2023.
