Romania, EDPR is planning to build a 226.5 MW wind farm

According to data published by electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica, Portuguese EDP Renovaveis (EDPR) is planning to build a 226.5 MW wind farm in southwestern Romania.

EDRP submitted the application for the connection of the wind farm to the network last month. The wind farm, located near Facaeni in Ialomita county, should be commissioned in 2025, with estimated investment value of 200 million euros. The company already operates 132 MW wind farm in Facaeni.

EDPR is currently the third largest investor in green energy in Romania, with a portfolio of 521 MW in solar and wind developed following investments of 750 million euros.

In early 2022, the Romanian Government announced that the Portuguese group EDPR is ready to invest in renewable energy projects in Romania with combined capacity of 1 GW. After the meeting with EDPR representatives, Romanian Prime Minister Niculae Ciuca said that the Government supports the acceleration of efforts at the national level aimed at the sustainable development of energy production capacity and supports investors who contribute to this strategic approach. The two parties emphasized the need for a framework that would promote stability, predictability and sustainability for such projects dedicated to achieving energy independence, through the use of renewable resources such as solar and wind.
