Romania, BSOG will soon start production activities at its Black Sea natural gas perimeter

Romanian Minister of Energy Virgil Popescu said that that Black Sea Oil and Gas (BSOG) will soon start production activities at its Black Sea natural gas perimeter and estimated that the company would deliver around one billion cubic meters of gas in the first year of operations.

However, as in the case of OMV Petrom, which operates another major natural gas perimeter in Romania’s offshore area, BSOG expects the authorities to adjust the regulations, mainly the Offshore Law, before the launch of operations.

Minister Popescu assured that amending the Offshore Law will go in parallel with the trial production by BSOG, without providing no details regarding the planned amendments. He said that the ruling coalition has agreed on the amendments and that the new Offshore Law will soon be sent to the Parliament for approval.

BSOG said earlier this year that it is confident about starting Black Sea gas production in the second quarter of 2022.

Black Sea Oil & Gas (BSOG), wholly owned by Carlyle International Energy Partners, is a Romanian independent oil and gas company, which targets exploration and development of conventional oil and gas resources. The company’s portfolio consists of XV Midia Shallow Block and XIII Pelican Block in the Romanian Black Sea, where the company is the operator and holds 65 % stake.

In early 2019, BSOG announced that it has approved the final investment decision to proceed with the 400 million dollars Midia Gas Development Project in the Black Sea. The Midia gas Project consists of 5 production wells (1 subsea well at Doina field and 4 platform wells at Ana field) a subsea gas production system over the Doina well which will be connected through an 18 kilometers long pipeline with a new unmanned production platform located over Ana field. A 126 kilometers gas pipeline will link the Ana platform to the shore. The processed gas will then be delivered into the national transmission system.
