North Macedonia: Reconstruction deal for Bitola 2 substation

Bitola 2 substation is an important hub for Macedonia’s electricity transmission system. It is connected to the largest electricity producer – coal-fired thermal power plant Bitola, to one of the two transmission lines with Greece and to the first transmission line with Albania which is currently under construction. The deadline for the completion of substation’s overhaul is 36 months.

Electricity transmission system operator of North Macedonia MEPSO and Croatian company Dalekovod have signed an agreement on the reconstruction of 400/110 kV Bitola 2 substation worth 3.2 million euros.

MEPSO is investing 2.2 million euros of its own funds, while the rest is provided through a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). This agreement marks the final phase of Bitola 2 substation reconstruction project, with total cost of 6.4 million euros.

According to MEPSO CEO Eva Sukleva, this investment will increase the security of supply and reduce the operational costs of the operator.
