North Macedonia: MEPSO wants electricity transmission fees increase of almost 100 %

North Macedonian electricity transmission system operator MEPSO has to continue investing in the modernization of North Macedonia’s transmission network, since some parts are more than 50 years old. General Director of MEPSO Kustrim Ramadani said that the operator will seek an increase of electricity transmission fees by almost 100 %. Ramadani explained that it will not affect the final electricity bills much, since MEPSO’s fees are accounted for just 3.5 % of final price of electricity. He said that the increase is necessary because

General Director of power utility ESM Vasko Kovacevski said that the final price of electricity depends on the price paid by the universal supplier EVN Home. Currently, ESM is supplying electricity to EVN Home at the price of 22 euros/MWh, which is significantly lower compared to prices on regional exchanges. However, ESM will do everything possible not to seek drastic electricity price hikes.

Regulatory Energy Commission (RKE) will have the final say regarding the price of electricity for residential consumers for a new, one-year regulatory period, staring on 1 August 2021.
