Turkey-based Kazancı Holding is planning to invest EUR 1 billion in gas power plants and gas and heat distribution infrastructure in North Macedonia, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski announced. The company, which operates in the energy sector under the Aksa brand, has a global presence in 22 countries across four continents.
Mickoski highlighted Aksa Energy as a leading player in the sector, with power plants totaling 3,500 MW in capacity across eight countries. He confirmed that negotiations are ongoing and expressed confidence that an agreement would soon be reached, paving the way for concrete steps in project implementation.
Notably, in November, the prime minister hinted at a potential EUR 1 billion investment in gas power plants, emphasizing their role as a long-term solution for air pollution. The government is currently in discussions with investors regarding the construction of cogeneration facilities.
The proposed cogeneration plants would have a combined capacity of 500 MW, capable of generating 4.1 TWh of electricity and 720 GWh of heat annually. Additionally, plans are being considered for the development of a distribution grid to support the initiative.
