North Macedonia, ESM seeks consultancy services for solar projects

North Macedonian state-owned power utility ESM has launched a tender for the procurement of consultancy and supervision services for the construction of two solar power plants with the combined installed capacity of 30 MW.

The statement from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said that ESM is planning to build two solar power plants next to TPP Oslomej (10 MW) and next to TPP Bitola (20 MW).

Estimated value of the contract is around 750,000 euros, with works expected to start in the first quarter of 2023 and to be completed within 33 months.

The deadline for the submission of bids is 2 December.

In April, ESM said that it is planning to build four solar power plants with combined installed capacity of 280 MW in the vicinity of its coal-fired thermal power plant Bitola.

Also in April, ESM has put Oslomej solar power plant into trial operation. The 10 MW solar power plant is built on the depleted Oslomej coalmine. It is expected to produce between 15 and 17 GWh of electricity per year, enough to cover the demand of some 2,800 households. The project was supported with a 5.9 million euros loan provided by the EBRD, as well as a grant of 1.6 million euros from bilateral donors to the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF).
