North Macedonia: Energy consumption and production in October

In October 2024, North Macedonia’s total electricity consumption reached 450,997 MWh, with natural gas usage amounting to 17.69 million cubic meters, coal consumption at 246,735 tons, and petroleum products consumption at 103,513 tons, according to data from the State Statistical Office. Of the electricity consumed, 77.6% was covered by domestic production. Notably, 99.6% of the total coal consumption was used for electricity generation.

The country’s total net electricity production in October 2024 was 328,877 MWh, a 27.1% decrease compared to the same month in 2023. Of this, 149,205 MWh (45.4%) was generated by thermal power plants, marking a 20.3% drop from October 2023. Hydropower plants contributed 80,533 MWh (24.5%), a decrease of 17.1%, while Combined Heat and Power Plants (CHPPs) produced 57,290 MWh (17.4%), reflecting a 58.4% decline. The Bogdanci wind farm generated 12,708 MWh (3.86%), while biogas power plants produced 4,907 MWh. Solar power plants contributed 24,237 MWh, or 7.37% of the total electricity produced in October.
