Montenegro: TPP Pljevlja back online after maintenance

Montenegrin coal-fired thermal power plant Pljevlja has been successfully reconnected to the grid following the completion of regular annual maintenance, EPCG announced. The regular overhaul began on April 17. It included a standard overhaul of the machinery hall, boiler plant, coal dust preparation system, and auxiliary facilities. This year, there was an increased scope of work on the medium-voltage equipment, particularly the control and monitoring systems of the power plant.

EPCG also said that the environmental reconstruction of TPP Pljevlja is in progress. 71% of the construction work has been completed, and it is expected that the major construction work will be finished by mid-August.

The most significant facility being constructed as part of the project is the desulfurization plant, which will significantly improve the environmental conditions in Pljevlja, along with the denitrification facility. Additionally, a wastewater treatment plant, noise suppressors, and the construction of a permanent heating plant, which will serve as a backup source for district heating in the city, are also included in the project.

Upon completion of the environmental reconstruction project in 2024/2025, TPP Pljevlja will become one of the most modern facilities of its kind, fully compliant with EU directives regarding environmental standards, according to EPCG.
