Montenegro, Technical losses in the electricity network in the distribution and transmission system amounted to 492.GWh in 2020

Technical losses in the electricity network in the distribution and transmission system amounted to 492.44 GWh in 2020, which cost end consumers in Montenegro 21.3 million euros.

According to data from the Energy Regulatory Agency (REGAGEN), electricity distribution system operator (CEDIS) and electricity transmission system operator (CGES), losses in the transmission network amounted to 9.22 million euros, while those in the distribution system to 12 million euros. However, technical losses have been reduced by 10 GWh compared to 2019.

CGES said that the average price of electricity supply to cover losses on an annual basis was 55.4 euros/MWh, 51.49 euros/MWh in March, when it was lowest, to 57.35 euros/MWh hour in January, when it was highest. Losses in the transmission system last year amounted to 163.6 GWh and were higher in nominal terms and lower in percentage compared to 2019. Losses in the transmission system last year were 1.82 % of total energy, while in 2019 they amounted to 146.5 GWh, which was 2.13 % at the time. Electricity supply contracts for last year were signed with four suppliers: EPCG, EFT, ALPIQ and GEN-I. The value of the contract, i.e. the costs of purchasing electricity to cover losses in the transmission system of Montenegro for last year amounted to 9.22 million euros.

When it comes to CEDIS, losses in 2020 amounted to 328.85 GWh, which is 12.93 % of total consumption in Montenegro. Losses in 2019 amounted to 356 GWh, which was 13.1 % at the time. In 2020, cost of electricity losses in the distribution system amounted to 12.05 million euros.
