Montenegro: EPCG is developing a 47 MW solar project in Niksic

Montegrin state-owned power utility EPCG received urban planning and technical conditions for the project of a solar power plant with a maximum power of 47 megawatts in Nikšić. Before that, it issued a document of the same type for a 186 megawatt photovoltaic park to a company founded four months ago, also on the territory of the second largest city in Montenegro.

The Government of Montenegro continues to approve urban planning and technical conditions for large investments in solar power plants. In order for the project to reach that stage, the investor needs to collect the opinions and approvals of a number of regulatory bodies and ministries and network operators.

EPCG, is the last company to achieve this step. It received the green light for a photovoltaic park of 47 megawatts of nominal or peak power. It is about the maximum capacity at which the panels can produce direct current in total, while the connected power is usually a fifth lower.

The annual production is estimated at 61.7 gigawatt-hours. The location is on the territory of the municipality of Nikšić, where the company’s headquarters are also located. It is located near Stuba, on the northern shore of Lake Krupac, a few kilometers from the second largest city in the country. Annual production is estimated at 61.7 gigawatt-hours, the document shows. The land is owned by EPCG.

EPCG previously received urban planning and technical conditions for the project of a small hydroelectric power plant near the Otilovići hydroaccumulation, from which it supplies water to that plant. Among the other news, it should be noted that the representatives of EPCG and the American company UGT Renewables discussed cooperation in the development of the Velje Brdo solar power plant project in Podgorica. They signed an agreement on the joint development of such ventures last year, and this one is now the first to be mentioned in this context.
