Montenegro: Alcazar Energy signs agreement for 118 MW wind project

Luxembourg-based renewable energy investor Alcazar Energy has signed a network connection agreement for its 118 MW Bijela wind project with Montenegro’s electricity transmission system operator, CGES. This agreement includes the necessary infrastructure construction to connect the wind farm to the Brezna substation in northeastern Montenegro, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2027.

The Bijela wind project, announced last year, aims to be one of the largest wind farms in the Western Balkans, effectively doubling the country’s installed wind power capacity. The project is estimated to cost around $200 million and is part of Alcazar’s broader initiative to create the largest renewable energy platform in the region, with planned investments totaling approximately $600 million.

Once operational, the Bijela wind farm is expected to supply electricity to over 20,700 households and prevent more than 260,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Construction is slated to commence in early 2025, in collaboration with the original greenfield developers, Simes Inzenjering and Sistem MNE.
