Hungary to receive Qatari LNG from 2027

Hungary will begin to receive shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar in 2027, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto announce.

The surge in demand for LNG led to Qatar and the United States assuming more prominent roles in furnishing Europe with gas. This shift has compelled landlocked nations like Hungary to diversify their energy sources.

Minister Szijjarto said that a political consensus has been achieved, paving the way for discussions between Qatargas and Hungary’s MVM. These discussions will ascertain the volume, pace, and route of the gas supply to Hungary starting in 2027. He noted that Qatar, the world’s largest LNG exporter, won’t have any available export capacity until 2027.
