Hungary, Government has allocated 25.8 million euros for the development of its electricity network

State Secretary for Energy and Climate Policy Attila Steiner said that the Hungarian Government has allocated 25.8 million euros for the development of its electricity network.

He noted that, due to the upgrade, the system will be able to absorb an additional 2,000 MW of energy from renewable sources.

Hungary has a total solar energy utilization capacity of over 3,000 MW. Its solar energy capacity has increased tenfold over the past ten years, with 26 % of electricity coming from renewable sources in 2021.

Last week, the European Commission granted Hungary 57.5 million euros for the development of electricity network, mainly for establishing storage facilities, Steiner said. The amount, along with contributions from the state budget, will be used to build 500 MW in energy storage capacity.
