Greece, Wind installed capacity rose by 6.3 % in H1 2021

According to the Hellenic Scientific Association of Wind Energy (ELETAEN), an additional 6.3 % or 260.5 MW was added to the Greek wind installed capacity in the first half of 2021, thanks to the sector’s local leaders Terna Energy, Ellaktor, Mytilineos, Public Power Corporation (PPC) and Motor Oil, and European peers Enel Green Power, EREN, Iberdrola Rokas and EDF.

A total of 97 new wind turbines were added in January-June 2021 period, corresponding to investments of about 260 million euros. Most of the installed capacity (around 105 MW) was in Vestas turbines.

The total capacity of wind power in Greece amounted to 4,374 MW at the end of June 2021, with another 562 MW under construction and set for connection by end-2022. The majority of the sum, totaling 1,775 MW, is located in Central Greece, followed by Peloponnese and Eastern Macedonia and Thrace with 619 MW and 490 MW, respectively. Terna Energy is the largest owner in terms of installed capacity, with 702.8 MW of RES plants in operation.
