Greece: Retroactive charge – suppliers expect ADMIE to accept responsibility

Due to account discrepancies between November 2019 and April 2020 and a 45-million-euro retroactive charge, Greek electricity suppliers want the electricity transmission system operator ADMIE to accept responsibility for its part in retroactive charge and participate in its settlement.

Suppliers have also asked for regulatory initiatives to offer greater transparency in calculations of various market-related accounts. They said that companies such as ADMIE should provide reassurances and solutions, and not create ambiguities and problems such as these. They urged the Ministry to intervene and offer market stability if the trans-mission operator is unable to do so.

Last month, ADMIE retroactively charged electricity suppliers a total amount of some 45 million euro for account discrepancies between November 2019 and April 2020. These retroactive charges were met with huge dissatisfaction among the suppliers, who already informed the Ministry of Energy about the issue and are expecting its intervention for a solution to the problem. However, the charges for each supplier have been calculated in accordance with market shares, so state-controlled PPC is accounted for the majority of the 45 million euros. The additional retroactive charges are particularly hard for medium-voltage traders as profit margins in this sector are extremely narrow and the com-petition is intense.
