Greece, Government rejected to issue an environmental permit for a project for the construction of seven wind farms with combined installed capacity of 239.6 MW

The Greek Government rejected to issue an environmental permit for a project for the construction of seven wind farms with combined installed capacity of 239.6 MW in Thessaly, developed by local company Enercoplan.

The proposal was rejected due to concerns related to the project’s potential impacts on protected bird species in the area as the proposed mitigation measures were not sufficient to keep the ecological balance. Concerns over the cumulative effects on forested areas have also been taken into account.

The project envisaged the construction of seven individual wind farms ranging between 25 and 52 MW in capacity.

The project company Enercoplan was established in 2018. Besides this wind project, it also has a portfolio of 75 MW in solar power plants in development.
