Greece-Egypt energy interconnection project moves forward: Next steps and funding

After the summer break, progress is expected to resume on the Greece-Egypt energy interconnection project, known as the “GREGY Interconnector.” According to sources from “Naftemporiki,” the project, led by ELICA of the Copelouzos Group, is moving forward with the next phases of development.

The initial expression of interest process has been completed, with 24 companies showing interest in preparing the necessary studies to assess the project’s economic viability. The upcoming phase will involve these companies submitting bids to undertake the preparation of these studies over the next 14 months.

The selected contractor will apply for funding from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), which can cover up to 50% of the study costs. Approval from Brussels is anticipated by December or January, marking the start of the detailed technical and environmental studies required to ensure the project’s sustainability and viability.
