Greece: DESFA launches tender for pipeline linking Alexandroupoli gas plant to national network

The Greek natural gas transmission system operator DESFA has announced a tender worth 1.22 million euros for the supply of steel pipes needed to construct a new pipeline that will connect the planned Alexandroupoli gas-fired power plant to the national gas network.

The 840 MW combined-cycle facility, scheduled to begin operations in 2027, is being jointly developed by PPC, DEPA Trade, and Damco Energy, a member of the Copelouzos Group. The new pipeline will provide the plant with direct access to natural gas supplied by the Alexandroupoli floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).

According to DESFA, the contract for the pipeline materials will have a duration of seven months with no option for extension. Interested companies can submit their bids until November 18.

The underground pipeline will start in Anthi, where it will connect to DESFA’s existing transmission network, and continue to the industrial zone of Alexandroupoli, ending near the plant’s metering station. This infrastructure will create a vital link between the FSRU and the new power plant, ensuring a stable and reliable fuel supply once the facility becomes operational.
