During the week of June 2, solar photovoltaic energy production decreased in the main European markets compared to the previous week. France registered the largest decline, with a drop of 22 percent, while Spain showed the smallest decrease, at only 0.3 percent. In Italy, Germany, and Portugal, solar production fell by 2.4 percent, 8.9 percent, and 9.2 percent, respectively. For Germany, this marked the third consecutive week of decline in production from this technology.
Despite these decreases, both the Spanish and Portuguese markets reached new records in solar photovoltaic energy production. On Friday, June 6, Spain achieved its all-time highest daily production with 221 gigawatt-hours. On the same day, Portugal registered its highest daily solar production for a June month, reaching 27 gigawatt-hours. Additionally, on Monday, June 9, France and Italy set their own historical records for solar photovoltaic energy production in a June month, with France producing 134 gigawatt-hours and Italy reaching 152 gigawatt-hours.
Looking ahead to the second week of June, solar energy forecasts by AleaSoft Energy Forecasting indicate an expected increase in solar photovoltaic generation in Germany. In contrast, production is anticipated to decline in Spain and Italy.
In the first week of June, wind energy production increased in most major European markets compared to the previous week. Portugal experienced the largest increase, with a rise of 135 percent, while Germany recorded the smallest increase, at 8.0 percent. Wind energy generation also rose in Spain and France, by 16 percent and 18 percent respectively. France continued its upward trend for the third consecutive week. Conversely, the Italian market experienced a decline in wind energy production for the second week in a row, with a drop of 29 percent.
On Friday, June 6, Germany recorded its highest wind energy production for a June month in history, generating 706 gigawatt-hours. For the week of June 9, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting’s outlook suggests that wind energy production will increase in the Spanish market. However, declines are expected in the German, Italian, Portuguese, and French markets, AleaSoft reports.
