During the week of December 8, electricity demand decreased across major European markets compared to the previous week, reversing the upward trend observed earlier. France recorded the steepest decline at 8.8%, marking the third consecutive week of falling demand. Italy and Great Britain followed with decreases of 7.8% and 7.2%, respectively. Other markets experienced smaller reductions. After five weeks of consecutive increases, demand in Portugal, Germany, and Spain fell by 3.6%, 3.4%, and 3.0%, respectively. Belgium saw the smallest decline at 2.7%. Notably, Spain, Portugal, and Italy celebrated the Day of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, which may have influenced electricity consumption patterns.
Average temperatures were generally milder than the previous week across most analyzed markets. Germany recorded the largest increase at 4.0 °C, while Portugal showed the smallest change at 0.3 °C. Great Britain and Italy were exceptions, with average temperatures dropping by 0.2 °C in both cases.
Looking ahead, for the following week, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting predicts that electricity demand will increase across the main European markets, AleaSoft reports.
